In any case, if I copy the emails over, the way you suggested, surely this will simply copy the contents of one local folder to another local folder. I have found the Tbird local folders on my hard drive, and have created a new sub folder, but it did not show up in Tbird's forlders pane. Repeat that procedure for each folder you want to download. Make sure that all of the messages have been copied to the new location and you can then delete the messages from the source folder (press Ctrl+A to highlight all and then press the Del key.) Then select the messages in the IMAP folder (click on one message in the right hand pane after selecting the folder then press Ctrl+A to highlight all messages in the folder) then use menu path Message->Copy to->click on the name of the appropriate sub-folder of Local Folders to initiate the copy process.
